QorusDocs lets you choose where you want to search so you can find the most relevant content, answers, or documents faster.
Depending on what you are trying to do, you can use Ask or Find:
- Use Ask (Smart Search) when you want to ask a question or enter a requirement in natural language.
- Use Find (Keyword Search) when you want to search by keyword, exact phrase, file name, product term, clause, or acronym.
When using Find, you can search all available Content Sources, such as SharePoint Online libraries and lists, OneDrive for Business, and Microsoft Teams.
When using Ask, you can select only the Content Sources where Ask has been enabled by an admin. Ask is supported for SharePoint Online libraries and lists. Other Content Sources, such as OneDrive for Business and Microsoft Teams, are not available for Ask and cannot be selected.
In this article you will learn how to:
- Access the Search pane
- Choose between Ask and Find
- Search one Content Source
- Search multiple Content Sources
- Filter and view results
Access the Search Pane
To access Search:
- Open QorusDocs in Hub Central or in a QorusDocs Add-in.
- Go to Search.
The Ask and Find experience is available from:
- Hub Central > Search
- QorusDocs Add-in > Search
Ask and Find may not be available in all search locations yet. For example, you may not find the new experience in:
- Hub Central > [Pursuit Name] > Search
- Create > Dynamic Content Smart Field > Search
Below is a screenshot showing how to access Search in Hub Central:
Choose between Ask and Find
Before selecting the places you want QorusDocs to search, choose whether you want to use Ask or Find.
Ask
Use Ask when you want to ask a question or enter a requirement in natural language.
Ask is designed for natural language questions and requirements, especially RFx-style questions, such as:
- What administration features are self-service?
- How do you protect customer data?
- Describe your security program and provide evidence of any audits or certifications.
- Explain your implementation approach.
- Provide your approach to disaster recovery.
When you select Ask, Content Sources that are not enabled for Ask are greyed out and cannot be selected.
If you have access to QPilot, Ask can also generate an AI answer based on the top results from the Content Source you open.
Find
Find is the keyword-based search experience in QorusDocs. It is designed for users who already know what they are looking for and want to search for an exact word, phrase, file name, clause, product name, acronym, or search term.
Unlike Ask, Find does not generate an AI answer. Instead, it returns a list of search results that match the keyword or search term you entered, allowing you to review and select the content you want to use.
Find is useful for:
- Finding content that contains a specific keyword.
- Finding content that contains an exact phrase.
- Finding a specific document, file name, clause, acronym, or product term.
- Retrieving search results without generating an AI answer.

Search one content source
To search one Content Source:
- In the Search pane, choose Ask or Find.
- Select the Content Source you want to search.
- Enter your question or search term.
- Click the Search icon.
After you run your search, QorusDocs displays the results for the selected Content Source. If you have access to QPilot and you are using Ask, an AI answer may also be generated based on the top results from that Content Source.
Search across multiple content sources
To search multiple Content Sources:
- In the Search pane, choose Ask or Find.
- Select each Content Source you want to search. Alternatively, to search all available Content Sources for the selected search type, click Select All.
- Enter your question or search term in the search box.
- Click the Search icon.
NOTE
The way Select All works depends on whether you are using Ask or Find:
- In Ask, Select All selects only the Content Sources that are enabled for Ask.
- In Find, Select All selects all available searchable Content Sources.
Content Sources that are greyed out in Ask are not selected when you use Select All.
After you run your search, QorusDocs shows the number of results found next to each selected Content Source. Click a Content Source name to view the results found in that source.
If you have access to QPilot and you are using Ask, an AI answer will be generated when you open a Content Source. The AI answer is based on the top results from that Content Source.
Ask can search multiple Ask-enabled Content Sources and show you how many results were found in each one. However, the AI answer in Ask is generated for one Content Source at a time. To generate an answer across multiple Content Sources, use QPilot Chat instead.
Filter and View Results
To filter and view results:
- Run your search.
- Review the number of results shown next to each selected Content Source.
- Click a Content Source name to view the results found in that source.
- Use the available filters and sorting options to refine your results.
Depending on the Content Source, filters and sorting options may include:
- Library filters
- File type
- Modified date
- Sort by relevance or other available sorting options
Notes and Tips
The option you choose affects which Content Sources can be selected.
If a Content Source is greyed out in Ask, it has not been enabled for Ask. You can still search that Content Source using Find.
For the best results:
- Use Ask for full questions or RFx-style requirements.
- Use Find for exact keywords, phrases, file names, clauses, acronyms, product terms, or other known search terms.
- Choose the Content Sources most likely to contain the answer or content you need.
- Use filters to narrow your results after searching.
- Review the source content before reusing an AI answer or inserting content into a document.
