FAQ: Your Hub's switch-over to the Default AI model

This article applies to:Available in these QorusDocs Editions:
Word PowerPoint Hub Central

QorusDocs is moving every Hub to the QorusDocs-managed Default AI model, the model behind QPilot Assistant that we select, manage and keep current on your behalf. This article answers the questions Admins and Designers ask most often about the change: what it is, when it happens, what carries over, and how to prepare.

This article is for Hub Admins and Designers. If you only use QPilot Assistant and do not manage Hub Settings or Smart Skills, there is nothing you need to do.

What is changing?

QorusDocs is taking AI model management off your hands.

Rather than Admins and Designers selecting a model for QPilot Assistant in Hub Settings and in each Smart Skill, every Hub will run on the QorusDocs-managed Default AI model, currently GPT-5.6 Luna, and stay on a current-generation model automatically.

On your Hub’s switch-over date, your Hub and all of your Smart Skills move to the Default AI model automatically, and the manual AI model selection and temperature settings will be retired. No action is required.

What is the Default AI model, and why is QorusDocs managing it?

The Default AI model is the model behind QPilot Assistant that QorusDocs selects, manages and keeps up to date on your behalf. It is currently GPT-5.6 Luna, OpenAI’s latest model, and the Help Center always lists the model that sits behind Default.

AI providers now release new models and retire older ones on a continual basis, so keeping a model selection current across a Hub and every Smart Skill has become an ongoing task, and a model selected today may be retired within a year. A managed Default AI model removes that task and keeps your Hub on a current-generation model as part of our normal product releases.

What are the benefits for my Hub?

  • Always current: your Hub stays on a current-generation model, with no need to track new releases or plan a migration each time an older model is retired.
  • Less to manage: Admins and Designers no longer need to select and maintain a model in Hub Settings and in every Smart Skill.
  • Faster, better responses: in our testing, GPT-5.6 Luna is faster and delivers better quality responses than the models it replaces.

Which QPilot features are affected?

All QPilot Assistant outputs run on the Default AI model:

  • Ask (Smart Search)
  • QPilot Chat
  • AI Text Smart Fields
  • Smart Skills

QPilot Agents (currently in Early Access mode) are not affected, as QorusDocs already manages the model behind each Agent.

When will my Hub move to the Default AI model?

QorusDocs is moving Hubs to the Default AI model in stages over the coming weeks. Admins will receive an email two weeks before their Hub’s switch-over date, and a confirmation email once the change has been applied. Dates may shift slightly to minimize disruption, and the advance notice will always give you the specific date for your Hub.

Can we move to GPT-5.6 Luna before our switch-over date?

Yes. Select Default in Hub Settings or in any Smart Skill to start using GPT-5.6 Luna straight away. Any Hub or Smart Skill already set to Default is already benefiting from it. There is no need to update each Smart Skill individually, however, as QorusDocs will move your whole Hub automatically on the switch-over date.

Do we need to do anything?

No. On the switch-over date, your Hub and all of your Smart Skills move to the Default AI model automatically, and everything you have configured carries over as it is.

If you would like to see how your saved prompts behave on GPT-5.6 Luna beforehand, you can preview it at any time between October 7th and your switch-over date (see below). This is entirely optional.

What happens to our saved prompts and custom instructions?

Your Smart Skills, AI Text Smart Fields, Content Source Instructions and QPilot Custom Instructions carry over exactly as you have configured them. Nothing is changed or removed, they remain yours to edit at any time, and your guardrails, terminology, tone of voice and standards continue to guide QPilot Assistant responses.

What does change is the model that runs them. Newer models bring more reasoning capability, so you may notice that the shape of a response changes slightly, for example a little more detail or more thorough responses, even though the underlying prompt is the same.

How can we preview GPT-5.6 Luna before the switch-over?

As from October 7th, when we update the current Default model from GPT-5.2 to GPT-5.6 Luna, Admins and Designers can select Default in Hub Settings or in an individual Smart Skill, review how saved prompts perform on GPT-5.6 Luna. Before your hub’s switch-over date, you can go back to the previously selected model if needed. The areas where you are most likely to see a difference are:

  • Smart Skills, when users run a Smart Skill powered by QPilot Assistant in QPilot Chat
  • AI Text Smart Fields that use QPilot Assistant, when users create a document or presentation from an AI-powered Smart Template
  • Content Source Instructions, when users search AI-enabled content sources with Ask or reference them in QPilot Chat with QPilot Assistant
  • QPilot Custom Instructions, which apply across all QPilot Assistant outputs in your Hub

Our guidance on reviewing prompts for the Default AI model article walks through what to look for.

What changes in Hub Settings and Smart Skills after the switch-over?

The AI model dropdowns in Hub Settings and Smart Skills will be retired, along with the temperature setting, which was a parameter of an earlier generation of models and is not supported by the current generation.

From that point, it will no longer be possible to select a specific AI model or return to a previously selected one. Every Hub makes this move on its scheduled switch-over date, so if you would like to prepare, the time to review your saved prompts is before that date.

How will future model updates work?

QorusDocs keeps the Default AI model current as part of our normal product releases, so there is nothing further for you to manage. The Help Center always shows which model sits behind Default, and we will let you know in advance of any significant model changes.

What if we notice a change in QPilot responses after the switch-over?

Our Help Center guidance on reviewing prompts for the Default AI model is a good starting point. The Support Team is also happy to help: contact helpdesk@qorusdocs.com and the team will investigate and, where needed, suggest updates to your prompts or instructions.
